There are some cons with business credit cards that you should be aware of before applying for a business credit card for a new small business. It may well be that they are an easy way to finance some of your business expenses but it may not be the best source of credit for your small business in the long term.

Finding the right business credit card is a time consuming task but one well worth the effort to ensure a good decision is made to limit some of the cons of business credit cards.

Credit cards for small business are credit cards that are given in the name of a business rather than in the name of an individual, however sometimes in the name of the small business principal, this may or not be considered one of the cons of business credit cards.  The liability falls on the business to settle rather than the business owner. Of course, small business credit cards are like all credit cards and need to be used carefully and within the financial constraints of the business itself. In fact, a bad credit rating for a small business credit card can have serious consequences and misuse of the card may result in the name principle being held liable.

The interest rates charged is usually one of the cons of business credit cards as these tend to be higher than the low rate credit cards available to individuals.

There are a lot of different terms and conditions associated with business cards and you need to know what they are before you sign the contract. One thing you should find out about is the minimum payment required on the card. You can then figure out according to your budget whether you will be able to meet this amount at least every month so that no payments go into default. Some business cards are like credit cards but require the balance to be repaid in full each month via direct debit. This may be a good option for new small businesses, with little or no security to offer. Needing security is one of the cons of business credit cards.

There are cons with business credit cards just as there are with all credit cards. It is important to match the credit card feautures with your business needs and discuss the options with your lender before applying for a business credit card, as choosing a card that is unsuitable could end up costing your business unneccessarily.
